Coachella. That special time of the year when Southern Cali becomes even more pretentious and overflowing with weirdness than usual.
So what do we have as far as BIG names this year?
Well, to name a few; Outkast, Neko Case, Broken Bells, and Girl Talk.
Have I ever told you about Girl Talk? Girl Talk was my first introduction to decent mashups.
Who else….Cage the Elephant, Mogwai, Muse, Queens of the Stone Age, Foster the People, MGMT, Arcade Fire, Lana Del Ray, Kid Cudi, Nas, and Skrillex to name a few.
Skrillex…does anyone know what exactly it is Skrillex does? Ok, whatever, he is making tunes and money, but I don’t get it.

Some of the bigger names I would love to catch.
Beck. Beck and I go back to high school. My favorite Beck album is his 2002 album Sea Change. His new album Morning Phase is his first in 6 years. I’ll always follow Beck. Rolling Stone gave it a 4.5. From what I have heard I give it a 3.95. It sounds floaty and Floydish at times, but nothing groundbreaking. I’ve read comments about it being ‘ahead of its time.’ I like it, but that just doesn’t seem right, it is atmospheric and dreamy, but it sounds like Floyd.
It’s funny for me to mention Neutral Milk Hotel in the bigger names category. I remember a time when I said their name and people were all…..’who?’ That doesn’t happen often with me as I am usually a year or so behind in the world of indie music. That being said, Jeff Mangum can do no wrong in my eyes, even when he does wrong. Ok, stop getting all worked up NMH diehards, he is not perfect. That being said, he is perfect.
Lorde. I’m interested in watching which route she will take. Is she going to allow the industry to produce her and morph her into their version of alt pop princess, or will she continue doing her own extremely talented thing? Her voice is mysterious and a bit smoky, her lyrics are interesting enough with just a tad bit of ‘fuck off’ in there, and the tracks are new and have a fresh sound. It’s not even necessarily my style, but I would love to catch that show and I plan on keeping an eye on her over the next few years.

And some of the smaller names....
Empire of the Sun has always sounded a little Arcade Fire meets Kings of Leon meets MGMT to me. I don’t love ‘em, but I definitely don’t hate ‘em. It’s a unique sound.
Bombay Bicycle Club acoustic Ivy and Gold sounds like Mumford and Sons and or Fleet Foxes. I like the easiness to it though.
Laura Mvula. She’s beautiful. Her voice is beautiful. The music has an old school Billie Holiday feel to it. She is natural talent.
And this band called Art Department that I have not heard of until now, and I liked this video/song from them.

So, to wrap this up. I will not be at Coachella this year.
Rolling Stone forgot to call me and ask me to cover the event for them.
To my fans that are sad to hear this; no worries, Coachella can be a bit overrated and I will still be paying attention and updating along the way.
And one more thing;
Dear Spotify,
I do not now, nor have I ever wanted to use your services. Please stop assaulting me with your advertisements. I thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.
Sincerely,
Cynthia Rose
