I found Thomas Wynn and the Believers in early 2013. A bit late, but better late than never right?
As per usual, I went through their albums in a schizophrenic manner and not in chronological order, so I'll start where I started with them.
Their album Brothers and Sisters was released in January of 2012.
It has been described as "southern rock muscle." I don't think the word 'muscle' is necessary in the description of this album. Southern rock definitely fits, but it doesn't have a lot of muscle of you ask me. But that is OK. It doesn't need muscle. It has Olivia's pipe power.
So, without knowing a thing about this band, after the first song I heard from them I informed my listening partner that it made me think of The Allman Brothers and The Black Crowes with a bit of a female touch (Olivia).
Turns out they are from Florida like The Allman Brothers, but even more interesting is that their father was the drummer of a band called Cowboy which was a huge success in the 1970's out of Capricorn Studios along with The Allman Brothers.
Brothers and Sisters is aptly named as Thomas and Olivia are siblings. This album is my favorite album from them so far. The runner up for favorite song on this album is Lie Me Down. But nothing really matters on this album to me without It's Alright. The song is raw, and it rips a bit where it needs to rip.

The next album I bit into from Thomas Wynn and the Believers was The Reason. Now, this album deserves the word 'muscle' in the description. At times it feels like Molly Hatchet meets CCR meets The Moody Blues.
It's southern rock that drifts. It's amazing really. It's such a unique mix of sounds and themes. It's hard to chose my favorite off this one. I think it would be Radio. It's a narrative. It has just enough rock n roll to not really be country, but the lyrics are country.

So those are the albums from Thomas Wynn and the Believers. But that is not all. There is this. This is 9 minute jam and it is worth every second. It stays tight and cohesive all the way through. It sounds like The Zombies and The Allman Brothers and Jane's Addiction and even a little bit of Bad Company. This is their crowning jewel if you ask me, which clearly everyone here did.
It's hard to chose one favorite from them because they have their mellow, more Dylan inspired, raw near ballads such as It's Alright which is clearly Dylan inspired based on lyrics if nothing else. Then there is their more uptempo CCR inspired sounds which is kind of what the album The Reason sounds like to me.
This however, fits right in between the two quite nicely. This is worth getting lost in, it's a bit of an acidic trip in mid jam, and it pulls through to the end.
I present to you Turn It Into Gold
